The Milford Road Runners were created in 1978 to provide a forum for runners of all abilities to train, compete and socialize. Our membership is a mixture of runners of all types, from serious racers to casual joggers.
We also sponsor two area races – The Winter Wonderland and the Independence 5000. The Winter Wonderland 5 Mile race is held in late January at Platt Tech in Milford. This is a low key race for the hardy runners looking for a winter competition. There’s hot soup after and plenty of other food. The Independence 5000 is a 5K race held on July Fourth at Foran High School in Milford. We get about 600 runners for this one, so there are plenty of tasks for club members. There’s a raffle at this event and plenty of food. This is a good chance to learn what goes in to putting on a large race.
During the Summer months, we sponsor a series of track meets in the summer at the Platt Tech track in Milford. They start on the first Thursday after Independence Day and continue until the end of August. They are youth oriented and we usually get about 150 kids from age one on up. There are also adult races mixed in, so there is a chance for everyone to compete. Trophy night and T-shirt night are two of the most popular features. Admission is free.
